Years ago on FB Marketplace, I found someone with a storage unit full of furniture from a hotel restoration. This delightful heavy iron table was $35, and it had a travertine top which easily popped out. We cut a piece of plywood the same diameter …that was the first step.
I delighted in making many, many test tiles of all sizes - and settled on these small half dollar sized ones.
I was certainly feeling compelled to try all the different textures on the half-dollar sized coins of clay - then using all my favorite glazes on each them… I know, it pop seemed a bit OCD, but I was thrilled.
On my first trip to the pottery studio - I fell in love with the test tile wall - and in retrospect - I think this tabletop was my own version of that!
