Last week I tripped acrosssome 3/4” texture stamps called Patchwork, from Metzler Tools in Atlanta. These come in a grouping of six (or can be purchased individually) and are double ended - with complimentary carvings on each end (so - totaling 12 textures!!).
I was originally drawn in by the idea of - patchwork - as my friend Deborah is an avid quilter - and I could parallel her endeavors as I “quilt in clay”.
These were my initial trials, simple clay tags or ornaments… the recesses can be filled with colored underglazes for a vibrant effect… or the tile could simply be glazed with one solid color glaze that “breaks” over the texture…
… so as my process evolves, if small is good, is bigger better? I played with the idea of simple versus chaotic and quieted the pattern. I definitely see great possibilities here!
