I was trying to work in serious colors - but then it hit me - and this set just spilled out of my torch. It was great fun, and I promise not to abandon this type of fun.... These beads have carving, fine silver, mica and silvered glass... all are encased for that extra oomph of PRETTY. Rounds are 15mm, lentils are 18mm all with 1/16" mandrel holes.
Overall length of set, as shown, is 4"
Yes. Bright. Blink... smile.
I just had to pair these together... I'm sure you see why.
This set measures "L as strung, all with 1/16" mandrel holes except the hollow and large green focal which have 3/32".
I was in my Zen place yesterday... as I usually am when I'm fighting the Glass God for control. These tiles measure around 3/4" sq *yes* - square... LOL! It's a fight to keep the bead flat, and square - while not cracking the bead release. (these are made on steel sticks called mandrels - much like the size of wire coat hangers... the wires are dipped into a ceramic coating so that the bead can be twisted off after its creation... sometimes that coating cracks and the bead is lost *no good*...)
So - there are 14 tiles of glass and seventeen 3/8"dia rounds all with 1/16" mandrel holes.
Olive, Glassdaddy Purple, Light Amber and a few Denim Blue.
SO SO loving this style earring... I'm going to try it in several color combos - (as I usually do) Sterling silver ear wires and headpins with a lampwork paddle of glass. These measure a daring 2 1/8" from top to tip and are amazingly LIGHTWEIGHT : )
The fun project that I had mentioned last week. I have about 20 little piles of nesting lenses - threes and fours... and I've designed and made the hanging hardware... Identified from left to right 1-7 in PayPal pull down menu.
Gorgeous dagger earrings in pale lavender, wrapped with silver and suspended from 20ga sq sterling silver. Beads measure 1 1/4" long
if you're able to wear this cool color KUDOS to you! I recently met a woman who could easily carry them off. Two pair of solid core/fine silver wound & encased in clear (yes - very thin encasing!!) One pair of purple core with a sprinkle of mica, then encased and dotted... and finally a pair of black base with ochre dots. All measure 1/2"dia with 1/16" mandrel holes.
When I started making these, obsessively, I went to my 'go to' colors... which I am calling 'serious colors', but found that for the project I had in mind I needed those crazy bright colors so while these are gorgeous - for this project, for me, they didn't work. Shaped like contact lenses - they have a heavy rim that is slightly 'rolled in at the edge'. Giving a concentration of color at the rims. Very nice. I think most of these larger ones do have a 3/32" mandrel hole - while the smaller ones have 1/16".
When I started making these, obsessively, I had in mind a certain type of project, and made extras of these bright color transmitting (shaped like contact lenses) curved disks. Each hash a heavy rim that is slightly 'rolled in at the edge'. Giving a concentration of transmitted color at the rims. Very nice. I think the larger ones have a 3/32" mandrel hole - while the smaller ones have 1/16". Sixteen in all...
Aren't these yankee doodle dandy?? I couldn't resist. Seems I fail to resist often, eh? One set with 3/32" mandrel holes, one with 1/16". If you need a certain size - let me know and I will be happy to oblige. around 1/2"D, 1/4"W
